Kahr PM9 vs MK9 Recoil question

I have the PM9 and am very satisfied with it's performance.

I have never shot the MK9 and have wondered what the recoil of the MK9 is like compared to the PM9.

I would appreciate hearing opinions from anyone who has shot both.

I assume the MK9 is an equal performer to the PM9 but let me know your experience.

I have not had any issues at all with the PM9 but my hands have a bit of arthritis now and I might consider going to the MK9 if there is a reason to do so.

    Thanks!

I own an early MK9 and have shot the PM9 but it's been awhile.

My mind wants to remember the recoil from the PM9 as more harsh. The grip is thinner and/or the checkering is coarser. If you wore a golfing or shooting glove during practice that would probably take care of some of the diff. The MK9 is a lot heavier since it's all s.s. as you already know and I think that helps tame the recoil some. The PM9 is a better pocket carry gun as you will feel the weight from the steel version flopping around unless you have a really good holster. Neither gun is really a "range gun" that I'd want to pound out a 100rds weekly with but their size is wonderful for pocket carry. Get a G17-19 or a Sig226-229 if you want to burn thru a lot of ammo more comfortably. Use them for what they do best.

My MK9 is astoundingly accurate for a gun that small. Hope that helps a little. Regards,

I own both. All I can say is, try them side by side if you get a chance. I sometimes take both to the range. Yes, the PM9's recoil is more harsh. But the PM9 is very manageable, though, IMO, and the MK feels pretty darned heavy to carry (in comparison - I usually carry a heavier primary gun anyway, though it is not compact). They are comparable in terms of reliability and accuracy and feel (other than weight). I carry the PM9 much more than the MK9.

But more the MK9 sits in the safe, though, the more I wonder . . .

    Thanks guys, it does help.

Normally, I carry an M&P Compact but there are times when the PM9 is my best choice and sometimes carry it as a bug. I also have a SIG P228 that I like and carry once in awhile, but it mostly sits at home.

I guess I would not mind getting an MK9 and having both the MK9 and the PM9. If the recoil is less, I could even imagine my wife carrying it.

I think I'll keep an eye on the FS forum for an MK9, don't see how I could go wrong with another Kahr.

    Thanks again!

I sold my MK9 some time back because it was way to heavy for its size, Its close to weight of a G26

I also sold my MK9 and replaced it with the PM9. I'm in agreement with all of the previous commentary....the MK9 is pretty heavy and floppy compared. Neither are terribly accurate for me outside of 10 yards or so given the long pull DA, and are not enjoyable range guns.

I use the PM9 for every day carry, and prefer a DA/SA pistol with exposed hammer for casual range sessions.
