proper way to clean a p22

ok guys, took my p22 out shooting today, and had some issues, dont know if it was my ammo (federal champions 525 value box) These have always worked in my marlin 60.

anyway, i decided on a good cleaning was a very good idea. I took it all apart, barrel and everything, soaked it in rem oil, then wiped it off...but it still felt dirty, sounded gritty.....so i took a litte brake cleaner and sprayed it in the gun and slide....the fluid came out black.

now i put it all back together using remoil, it seems to slide smooth and quicker than normal, anyway i wanted to know what other people use to clean there guns....i assume brake cleaner isnt the best, but it does get into all the crackes and crevices...

    what does everyone use

    please pm me your answers

Just so you know, brake cleaner will cause damage to some plastics and remove the finish from some metals.

We used some on a few M-16's and it turned the metal a white color and other cleaners or oil would not change it back.

I had performance problems with my P22 when I first got it. After switching to CCI Mini Mags the gun has performed flawlessly ever since. I have close to 1,000 rounds through it and have honestly not cleaned it other then right after I bought it...

    cleaner

yes, the brake cleaner worked really good, didnt turn any metal into white

i was pm'd to use clp, or gunscrubber....so im going to the store to see what i can find, i think i used gunscrubber before and it did discolor one of my guns, not bad, but it was noticable

i will try some clp or see what the store has

in a pinch the brake cleaner worked, but i dont want to make that a habit

as far as ammo goes, i will just run my mini mags thru it

leave the federal champions for the marlin 60 to eat

well i just bought some clp break free, says it wont hurt the metal at all, but i just took my p22 out, without any clp, after last nights cleaning

the p22 functions flawlessly. cci mini mags and those federal champions

its a shame that its on a possible trade

but atleast i know that it was really dirty, thats why i didnt work right

now i got a super clean gun working like new

    woohoo

    thanks for the info everyone

Look up the "P22 bible" online.
