a pump shotgun
even a deaf man knows that sound
seriously a shot gun a older yet working 12ga loaded with buckshot or large birdshot
hell if need be my new 391 will work but swinging the 30" in the living room could cause a problem LOL
I'm gonna have to say a pistol of some sorts. Shorter barrel and easier to manuver. Besides, you want to stop the intruder, not hit the intruder as well as a few neighbors in the line of fire behind him.
Yes a shotgun would do that, but you'd have to saw a lot off to get it the size of a pistol.
Also, a nice AR-15 pistol loaded with JHP would be sweet!
Handgun within reach on the nightstand, 12ga within a few steps.
Sorry, but I've got to call BS on that.Originally Posted by bassplayer

I use a hndgun for the living room anser the door type gun!
In my bedroom there is the the best home defense weapon one can have
the 223 carbine.
Different situations call for different methods.
.40 for me and a .380 for Pam in the headboard of our bed. If you get through the locked door, past 80# of German Wirehaired Pointer and down the hall, it's going to be a close quarters. Engage sights, press trigger, repeat.
Front or back door and close house perimeter is the tac 870. It is black, stocked with #4 buck and has a Surefire on it. The sight, the sound all means get the Hell away from here!
Farm protection means the Mini 14 stoked with Winchester Silvertips and topped with a red dot scope. It's ready to rock and roll and stops dogs and 'yotes in their tracks. Do not mess with Pam's livestock.
We also combine any of the above.
