    Pistol Sales Records

Does the actual purchaser of the handgun (me) have to personally drop off the sales record receipts to the local law enforcement office? Or can someone else do it for me (like the wife)?

Of course the local office hours come nowhere close to me being able to do it myself without taking some time off work to do so.

    Thanks!

    I use USPS Certified mail.
A card comes back to you wth a signature of the person who received it.
You need to know where to mail it. A call to your local PD and they can tell you where to send the papers.

I would have spent over $50 with that method in the last year. That's still cheaper than the gas bill though

Thanks guys. The local office is not far from the house, not an inconvience to just run it there.

I have them initial and date my copy of the RI-60, PD is less than a mile from my house so it works good for me.

I HOPE one day we will be able to CHANGE this racist practice.

Drop them off personally. I assume police buildings dont delete camera footage. Strangely though when ever I drop off the MSP, and Agency copy, they only keep the MSP copy to be mailed and give me back the Agency copy. I guess it doesnt really matter as when first purchasing, you are in the feds record right?

NO, you are not in the "feds" records. The pistol registration is a STATE law, and we are one of only 4~5 states that do it.

With the exception of "grandfathered MI-Pistols", you are under no obligation to keep or have a record that the pistol was registered. To charge and convict you with failing to register, they would have to prove that you didn't do it. Toss your copy into your "guns" file folder and call it a day, your mere possession of your copy is all you would have if you followed the letter of the law and no more.

    Just mail the thing in.

    ETA:
Since the change in the law, the new version will only have three copies. The "agency" copy is being eliminated, the locals are not required to keep the records any longer.
