Not too bad on the whole. I like the Idea, but if you don't keep a "standard" license as well you may run into NICS issues, it shouldn't affect private transfers.

There are a few other things in there, mostly housekeeping. And they establish a $25 fee for transferring the licensing issue to a different county if you move. Not a requirement, but you will be responsible to renew, no notice.

    FIFY
ATF will not accept our CPL in lieu of NICS if it goes more than 5 years without an updated background check.

Also, there are reciprocal issues with some other states.

I suspect those are the reasons that the expiring CPL would still be offered.

IF it passed by some remarkable happenstance, I don't see it being signed by our gun loving governor.

And that would put it back where the house and senate could override her. They have done that at higher vote counts than the original passage, just to put the gov in their place. That is why having someone (from the gov's point of view) like Meekov (sp) in there to prevent it getting to the gov is good. The question of passing the legislature still stands. But it is not like they are doing away with the CPL requirement. They are creating another level that COSTS MORE, what bureaucrat doesn't like that ( even if it is a loss in the long run )?

Jen signed several things she didn't want to, so that being overridden on the subject would not be on her record.

I do not like the new Gov. in any way. But let's give her a chance to hang herself. There will be any number of compromises that she will want us to swallow. She can wish for anything she wants, but without the legislature to bring it up & vote, she gets absolutely NOTHING. We may be in a better position than we have been the last 8 years. Time will tell.

I've had the opposite experience, with the exception of a shotty I bought from Dunhams.
Bottom line, the current Michigan CPL allows a FFL to skip the NICS, but doesn't "require" they skip it.
It is up to the FFL. The bigger the "store", the more likely they will run the NICS by policy.
