I've shot the left hand 1911's, and I prefer the regular kind. Just stay away from oversized mag release buttons.

Cabot makes them.
Joe Chambers builds them.
Neither will go for under $900. Minimum 4x that amount to even start.

I'd look at an American made Springfield Range Officer 1911.
You won't go wrong with a Rock Island. My brother has one, and loves it.
A coworker of mine also has one, but he hasn't shot it much yet. He does like it, though.

A nice Randall B111 lefty just sold for $ 5,325.00 on GunBroker:
http://www.gunbroker.com/item/658857419
......Randall Firearms Co. out of Sun Valley CA manufactured guns between 1983 and 1985. They were the first to mass produce a stainless 1911 type pistol. They were also the first company to offer a mirror image left handed model. For only producing 10,000 guns in the company history they had over 25 different models and 8 different kinds of magazines. This auction is for a left handed model B111. Total production of the left handed Fixed Sight all Stainless 1911 is 297. This gun has the matching box, and additional paperwork with little sign of extensive firing. There are likely few of these guns left in this condition.....
