Roughly speaking, What is the value of this 1911? Pic was sent from a friend and he wants me to buy it. Belonged to his father.

Serial number and manufacturer are important in finding a value on these US property 1911's.

Tallbear is correct, it looks to be in almost mint condition, I can say that it is a 1924 or earlier manufacture. Unless its a reproduction, it should be worth quite a lot.

Friend wants you to have it, must mean a lot to him. In that shape and an old man history, especially if it is pre-24, $2000 to $3000 should be fair.

Buy it......who cares what it is worth. I guarantee it will be worth more than you paid, in less than 5 years.

Colt did make a reproduction of these didn't they? I would definitely look into it more before you throw money down. The condition looks extremely good for an almost 100 year old gun.

I believe that's a reproduction. I can't swear to it, but I'm pretty sure the Rampant Colt appeared between the 2 sets of lettering on the slide on the originals, not the rear.

I guess it could be a Colt reproduction, still a valuable pistol.

    It's a reproduction. $1500 to $2K.

Just wondering how you can tell from that picture?
That would be a tip worth sharing, thanks.

Put that picture in the 'Collector's corner' section on https://forum.m1911.org/

They have some reputable Colt collectors and expert appraisers who would probably help you.
