So I read through the post that wasn't very complimentary of the Huron Valley Guns facility and I feel inclined to post a different point of view. Several thoughts came to mind as I was reading.
The facility itself is in an easy to get to location - not far off I-96 and explainable even to the directionally challenged.
The facility is spectacular inside. It's one of the most well stocked stores I've ever set foot in that wasn't out in the boonies. Jay's Sporting Good Store in Clare, MI is really well stocked in comparison and they have a lot of stuff that caters to hunters and outdoorsmen. Yes, to us down-staters, Clare is kind of in the boonies. No offense. I love the area but it's a haul for me to get to.
The staff who work at this facility are top notch. If you want to talk with someone who knows guns, there's a specialist in just about every brand and model. I could list names of people I've spoken with and as a female, I've had nothing but amazing interactions. I'm treated with respect and questions are answered for me no differently than any other male customer. Yes, to a female who has the ability to do her own armorer work, treatment makes a big difference. I walked into a very small range / gun store in Keego Harbor and the old timers there wouldn't give me the time of day. I found them to be rather arrogant and disrespectful. I was interested in ordering something and they didn't even offer to give me a quote. How the heck are they supposed to sell anything with that kind of attitude? Is my money not as good as a man's? I was very respectful but the old guy behind the counter insisted that there were only 2 calibers that mattered and 9mm wasn't one of 'em.
Whatever.
Back to Huron Valley Guns. They have tactical gear that's relatively well stocked for a gun range / store and prices are ok if you don't mind paying typical retail prices. I like supporting this store because I want to be able to talk to the experts face to face (versus solely through online sources like these) and be able to handle different models in the store that I've been reading about. In a few cases, I've ended up buying something there. We have to support small businesses to keep them in business or someday, the only place we'll be able to make purchases is online. I'd hate that kind of choice.
The owner is a very thankful gentleman. He has thanked my husband and me a few times that we've stopped in, bought something, and complimented him on the facility. He's a genuinely nice person who really enjoys what he does and likes seeing happy customers.
Let's not bash the store for being creative with their prices. Although I have a lot more expendable income than many, I won't be buying their memberships because I have a super deal at another facility that caters to my style of range utilization. I wish this facility was equivalent to or near-equivalent to the place where I'm a member but I love the place I've been going and will take the extra drive time to get there. The memberships at Huron Valley are just not for me in comparison.
I love that there are some individuals who the memberships DO cater to. All the better for keeping Huron Valley Guns in business. The guys who work there are fantastic and they're big-time enthusiasts. If you get a chance to stop in on one of their slow nights, it's the best time to strike up casual chat about your favorite brand. We're known for stopping by once or twice a week and picking up something or other. It's our way of supporting our small businessmen and their employees who have families to feed and bills to pay.
So for those who bashed Huron Valley Guns, I hope you reconsider but I understand if you don't. Everyone is entitled to his opinion on the matter. After all, we live in America and we have choices. Isn't that wonderful?
I wish everyone a Safe and Happy Holiday Season. Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate the same Holiday as me. And Happy Holidays to those who celebrate different Holidays as well.
