I always tell myself I need to buy an oven mitt to get my hot suppressor off before leaving the range. Yet here I am every time... ow ow ow ow. It’s amazing how quick they warm up.

I've watched videos of folks pouring water into a can before threading it on the firearm. Any reason why the firearm can't be held muzzle-down and then slowly pour some water over the outside of the can to help reduce heat?
Depends on how hot we are talking and the materials used. Rapid cooling of some materials can cause issues like cracking.
The water in the can trick is used to displace oxygen as to make the can quieter for a short period. Same could be done by filling the can with a non-flammable gas, like CO2.
