How would Scheels know it was stolen?

I've sold firearms to stores and gun shops, they never asked for proof of ownership or checked anything. I dont think there is anywhere to check is there?

I know a couple of gun shops that require you to have proof of ownership before they will buy or repair your handguns.
    No proof, no service.
Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

I've ran into that, I just walked away. I can't prove I own a gun I've owned for 40 years. It was given to me and I tossed the green card years ago.
Many shops understand that and are willing to trade or fix a handgun on my word other than to mess with me, I ignore those who want to impose more hurdles for gun owners.
