    AR question

I am looking to buy an AR and would like to know the key features to focus on. I am expecting to budget $800. Can anyone recommend ideal brands and features I should use to limit my search. This is my first AR, I hunt with everything else so I am open to any and all information I can get. I want to buy a complete unit, I do not have the patience or equipment to build one m yself.

    thanks

There are a bunch of good deals on AR 15 style rifles now. I have a Ruger AR 15, and for me it works great...I just shoot it for fun. Some of the AR's on the market have baby finger sized barrels, I like a bigger barrel. I originally wanted a Colt, but the price was out of my league, and I am not going to shoot full auto, so I didn't really need a chrome lined barrel. I you look at the receiver stamping on AR's you will see that they are made by the same manufacture. Colt, Stag and Ruger receivers are made by the same company. Lots of choices, enjoy your search and enjoy shooting your AR.

A good rifle that doesn't break the bank can be had for a low price if you buy a kit from Palmetto State Armory and assemble your choice of lowers. I like the Magpul MOE kits with the rear sight included. A good optic that doesn't cost a lot is a Voryex Sparc AR. Have fun with it. BTW, there are multiple threads on this topic the last week. Check those out.

Little does he know he likely does have the tools. All you need vise grips, tape, and a razor blade. I really encourage the lower build so that the operator has a better understanding of the platform.
