springfield xds 4.0

I saw a Springfield XDS 4.0 45acp with ss slide poly frame. Racked the slide back and locked it open to look inside. I saw a bunch of vertical gouges on the top of the barrel and wondered what caused this to happen. Rest of the pistol looked new. $350.00 is the price. I called Springfield they said send it in to them. New barrel would be $125.00. This pistol is discontinued per Springfield.

Sounds like it would happen again with the new barrel. Must be a reason to disco it.
