I guess my brass rod was on the small side
as for reloads a few people said the larger cal revolvers tend to losen the crimps before making it to the fireing chambers
new to reloads idk

Do not use a wood dowel. It can swell from pounding and also get lodged in the barrel. Use a brass or steel rod wrapped with some tape at a few spots to keep it centered in the bore.
