    Savage 12FV
    308 Winchester
    EGW 0 MOA base
    Burris Zee Rings
    Cabelas alpha 3-12x40 scope
    110BA tactical bolt handle

i would like to put a better scope on it when i get out past 200 yards

most likely won't go past 500 yards

looking at options most scopes with higher magnification seem to be 30MM is there good 1" scopes i'm missing?

What size target? That scope should be fine. Like an old Master class shooter told me once--"you don't need to see the target well, you just have to see it the same every time". The Marines just went with a 2.5-8X for their DMR.

    How deep are your pockets?
A USMC 500 meter target is IIRC 60"x40" and all they require is a hit on paper, the 600yd High Power target has a 6" 10 ring and is shot with irons. The scope you have will work fine for either target. If you are going to shoot small targets or non std targets that might not stand out like a black bull on white paper more X's are always nice and the more the better IMHO.

    Take a look at Nikon's M308 scope.

Mueller scopes are affordable and not bad for daylight target shooting. I sold my varminter model to a buddy who is a serious long range competitor, he doesn't have it on his match rifle but is quite happy with it overall. Hard to beat for the $$.

For 3x the price I now have 2 Vortex 24x models that I am very pleased with. Watch Cabelas for sales etc, sometimes they get refurbished ones on sale.

    Budget?

Do you have a preference for FFP or SFP?

Are you just trying to hit a target at 500 or shoot small groups?

I have a 4-12 Vortex on my 308. We rang the gong every time at the 200 meter. We ran short on time and did not move out to the 500 meter. Next time out. Lets meet at the 500 range soon. I would like to see your Savage.
