You sir are almost certainly correct (Michigan law is not as clear on this subject as you are)!

However, ever heard of a LEO too be less than fully informed about the latest nuances of gun law and scholarly legal opinion?
What are the chances that a LEO would ever get this wrong and arrest me and confiscate my loaded and concealed pistol because he/she measures it with the FH and/or the Brace?
    Hmmm...do I want--can I afford--to be the test case?

The same chances as you having a PDF of the law on your phone, or a link to the MCL, and or a hard copy in your glove box.

Can you provide us with links to these laws?

You can start with the legal definition of a pistol.
    http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(jsr...me=mcl-750-222

Then find your way to MSP legal update #106
    Registration Requirements
SBR or SBS that is 26 inches or less in length must be
registered as a pistol in Michigan:
MCL 750.224b(4) was added to require that a person,
except a manufacturer, lawfully making, transferring,
or possessing a SBS or a SBR that is 26 inches or
less in length comply with the registration
requirements of MCL 28.422 or 28.422a. A SBS or a
SBR that is 26 inches or less in length is considered a
pistol as defined by Michigan law and is subject to all
    Michigan statutes applicable to pistols.

I'm on my phone at the moment so I'm not able to quickly or easily reference the point on 'shortest operable length', and experience tells me you're not done splitting hairs.

And you are answering the wrong question.

Where in what you reference, is there something that directs a LEO on what is to be included in the OAL?

The reference for "shortest operable length" is in AG opinion #6280, and also only addresses folding/collapsing stocks.

Not that my, SB Tactical SOB Pistol Brace, would let me get under 26", even with nothing on the end of the barrel.

I'm wondering if a barrel thread protector and shorter brace might bring it under 26" and thus avoid those expensive legal fees.
You could always get a STD, if the guy is healed up now.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that looks as long as my A2 FH.
