    Yeah, I think you guys are right that it's beech, not birch.

    Thanks for the replies, everyone. Free time being what it is, and already having several gun projects on my plate... well, after some consideration of the recommendations presented here, I'm just going to look for a replacement stock. Even if I can fix my beech stock it'll probably just warp again in the future, so I'm just going to move to something more stable. Although it might be cheaper, I just can't bring myself to go synthetic on this rifle, so I'm keeping my eyes open for a used or otherwise reasonably priced laminate stock in the $100 range.

    No clause in the constitution could by any rule of construction be conceived to give congress a power to disarm the people. Such a flagitious attempt could only be made under some general pretence by a state legislature. But if in any blind pursuit of inordinate power, either should attempt it, this amendment may be appealed to as a restraint on both.

    I have a wood 10-22 stock you can have. Its in very good shape. Came with a gun I purchased and has been collecting dust. Looks like your in jackson county. I am in grasslake. If you would like it you can message me on here and we can set something up.
