Hell of a platform for that money. They were a lot more than that 6 months ago.

thats probably the best way to look at it. Its everything you could want for the most part, it is more affordable now than ten years ago, I think they were 1500-1600 bucks ten years ago, weren't they ?
Anyways you have to be pretty fussy, or an awesome shot for a trp to hold you back in any way.
+another for Dan Wesson.
suggest the Valkyrie, ~$1200-1300.
I have owned a Colt Lightweight Commander and loved it BUT I just bought my first Kimber CDP2 and I will have this for the rest of my life and be proud to hand it down to my kids . If you can afford a grand I could recommend Kimber Custom shop CDP 2 .
I have a brand new Dan Wesson Specialist in Stainless I took in a trade for a rifle. I was going to keep it but decided I really don't need it so I am going to put it on my table for sale at the Birch Run gun show this weekend. They retail for $1700 with street value about $1400 which is where I am going to price it. I'll go down to $1250 for the first one to put up cash.
I’m gonna save you money in the long run and say do whatever it takes to get a Dan Wesson. Had I been aware of how many leagues better than my SIG 1911 my DW would be, I never would’ve bought the SIG and went straight for the DW. Hindsight is 20/20.
Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men.
Its a real sweet spot where its basically all you could want and need, not cheap, but still fair priced. You will not have a nice a gun of you buy a lower gun and pour and equal amount into it in most cases.
If the OP thinks he cannot keep a good value RIA, or mid level SA stock, then just step up to this, but not more.
You can pay twice as much, for only the tinest bit better performance or looks.
Yeah... no. I have and have had a number of Wilsons, Nighthawks, Guncrafters and 3 custom built 1911's. There is a marked difference between a stock DW and a semi-custom. Slide to frame fit; barrel to bushing fit; proper disco/sear pairing; proper barrel lock up; and the list goes on. DWs are probably the best of the stock mass produced 1911s out there, but to say there's only a tiny bit difference between a Guncrafter and a DW tells me you have never owned a semi custom.
To that end, there is only a tiny bit difference between a DW and a TRP- and I have owned multiples so can make that judgement call. I don't own any more DWs as I just didn't shoot them as much. My only complaint with the TRPs is that they do not have a VIS cut, not even the SACS Pro. Small upgrade that can make a difference, and I believe DW goes the extra step for this.
