    Hand checkering the straps...experience?

So my new 75B's straps are smooth as a baby's... and I want to change it. My Rami, PCR, and Shadow 1 all have at least vertical lines machined in. I have watched some YouTube videos on self checkering, and the matte stainless steel will be easier to "fix" than a polycoat one (which means I will probably do some usual trimming of the trigger guard where my middle finger tucks in. Anybody done this themselves? It is pricey to have a smith do it. I'll still need to find someone to bead blast too.

Trying not to increase the grip size. I have had Hogues in the past on a 1911 with the front finger swells, but with double stacks I am going with thinner grips and bare metal straps. There are friction tape kits, but that is a last resort on this nice stainless steel.

If it were me I'd put those golf ball dimples on it. Looks rather easy using a drill press and a round ball bit.

no experience on DIY checkering.. but I know it is a pricey mod, when done by a skilled gunsmith.
It is a time consuming process, requiring a degree of skill & knowledge, which all = costly.
I've had it done a few times by gunsmiths, after deciding I wanted it done.

If you attempt it as a DIY project, I'd suggest getting the files / tools used & practice on scrap metal,
to see how it goes, before trying it on your hand gun.
Good luck, & consider doing a thread on your progress if you do decide to give it a try.

I would say price out professional grade tools.

Just consider that if it does not look 90 % as good as a good pro, no one will want it when you sell it.

If you keep it for ever then I guess go for it, but no checking is as good as rubber. That pachmayr is checkered rubber you can put the gun in one hand, use two fingers to bite into it, and try to pull it out with the other hand. Its not easy. Its like velcro.

Did you even read the reviews for that Pachmayr you linked to? Just move along, please.
