    44mag loads are typically only in the 1400-1500fps at full power. Where 300aac is typically 2000-2200fps at full load. So the drop in fps (to achieve subsonic velocity) for 300aac is dramatic compared to 44mag.

    All other ballistic considerations aside.

    Maximum .44 S&W Magnum loads with 240 grain JHP bullets over W-W 296 powder average 1,771 fps out of my Marlin 1894 lever gun, which has the standard 20 inch barrel.
