    Marlin 444s

I have an older marlin 444s . Don’t see any serial numbers on it? Where would I find it?

Depends on how old. Long guns over a certain age were not required to have S/N’s-1968 actually so not really that long ago.

Marlin could have been marking them prior to that but I’m not sure if they always did.

First year of manufacture was 1965, can't be older than that.

So those between 65 and 68 may not have a S/N. They should however according to the links I posted have a “date code”.

Some markings are hard to read, I have some old blued marlin 22s that are in 95-98% condition, and you have to have perfect lighting to read the markings on the barrel.

If there is no number on the top rear section of the tang, and none on the lower tang/trigger housing, then in all likelihood the lower tang/trigger housing has been replaced.
