Not that I doubt you, but I haven't heard of any injuries from The Pit and I definitely haven't heard of any deaths.

You'd figure with how much the locals hate The Pit, anything like that would be all over the news and used as an excuse to close it down.

That being said, I do NOT go there anymore. Way too many idiots.

Who would drive 2 hours to the pit?

In all of the years that I have lived up here, there has been no "incidents" at the "pit" that needed to be reported to the Sheriff. Outside of the locals burying boards full of nails in the parking area.

That is until last fall, and the report was third hand. The one that told me about it didn't see it happen, but saw the wound. It seems that there was a guy shooting buckshot at steel, on an angle to the firing line. There was a ricochet that struck the arm of one of the brass pickers down near the other end of the line. It was the taller old guy (my age) who's name I can never remember. He just plucked it out and taped it up.

Yup, just like in the movie," panic in the year zero", ah, he just caught a little buckshot, that's all.

Well...... Just because no one has ever been shot or killed doesn't mean it's safe.
You COULD still get killed there so I recommend everyone stay away.

The local indoor ranges with RSO's and only a couple deaths are MUCH safer.
Go there & pay to be protected.

I don’t think live targets are allowed at the pit

Similar to how I got shot in the face with an AR15 at a local 25 yard indoor range.
Well, a piece if copper jacket anyway.
Their cameras and rsos weren't fast enough to snatch it out of the air before it hit me.
I did pack up and leave early though. Same as I would at the pit

My private range has 1 rule as that is all that's needed.

    Don't Do Stupid S**t

That covers your NRA 3 rules or Cooper's 4 rules and keeps everyone safe. If you do something unsafe, you're gone, never to return.

For the pit, it's pretty much the same, just without the kicking off of the private property. That's what "Big Boy Rules" are. If I am at a public range and see you doing something unsafe, bet your butt you're about to hear about it, as I, along with anyone/everyone else there, wants to go home with the same number of holes in their body.

If you can't handle big boy rules, maybe you're the one that needs a puppy and a safe space.

The private range I go to is the same way. People have to sign in, so anyone acting like a moron will be kicked out. The only potential problem to a "public" range is that not every "big boy" has the same notion of what is safe and I strongly suspect the kind of person that is most likely to be unsafe is the kind of person least interested in getting feedback from some random stranger.
