They are two different spring for two different applications. I already installed the gas tube spring thinking it was a loose gas tube. The upper hand guard spring goes in the handguard itself to keep the handguard is from sliding.

I see, I have yet to run into the gas tube spring you speak of. The one for the handguard, that goes in the cut out, should do the trick for you.
