    RED DOT POSITION

My Son has a S&W M&P AR15 Tactical. He bought a Sparc ll red dot for it & asked me to mount it for him so that it co-witnessed with the flip up sights. Used the supplied riser & bolted it on with good results.

My question is, where on the upper rail should the sight be mounted ? I put it about ½ of the way out. Seems to be about right to me.

I have mine mounted at the end of the rail nearer to the receiver. Serves me well.

I keep mine all at the end of the upper receiver rail, next to where the free float starts . I'd think that mounting it on the handguard would result in poi shift as torque is applied.

I'll be the 4th of the same opinion as the 3 other guys.
I have 2 sparc-ar on AR15s, and a few other types of red dots and all mount at the forward end of the upper receiver.
I've never had any problems hitting what I was aiming at. Including fairly rapid fire on an 8" steel target at 100 yards. Good enough for me.

Also, the closer you have the red dot, the better your field of view through the tube. I like seeing.

I place mine just forward of the MBUS, so near the center of the receiver rail.

Too far back the body of the sight will limit your field of view outside of the sight which might not matter depending on use. In a CQC situation it could get you killed.

This works for me too. Keep same cheek position for BUIS and red dot.
I’ve never had an issue with blocking field of view.

    Here is a good article:
