    CPL Blues

My CPL was set to expire according to the license in September on this year. I went to the star lite office in Wayne county to renew yesterday. The weirdest thing happened. The lady at the counter told me that my card was issued with the wrong expiration date. She said that it would have said 2020. The said she had to confiscate my card and they will mail me a new one with the 2020 date. I have never heard of this has anyone else? She said it happens sometimes. I am lost for words

    Sorry for your luck.
    I'd comment more but I don't want a

Yes, clerical errors do happen, especially with the volume of permits Wayne Co. issues.

In your case, there was no harm in you having the original card (it would be a different story if it had a 2021 expiration date and they let you keep it).
I don't think I would have been walking out of there without a new card…or my old card…or something that qualifies as a temporary card since the issue was on them, not my fault!

Since it is just a correct/reprint, I am really surprised they didn't correct/reprint it right then and there…unless they only have the ability to print the cards downtown.
In any case, you should see it in the mail before the weekend. Keep us posted!

Next time, use the online renewal! I know I will be doing so!

contact the michigan civil rights commission to file a complaint.
Since we're SHALL ISSUE and the error was that you would have to renew before due, they may have just denied you your right to carry.
If nothing else, filing a complaint will make them reconsider being jerks in the future. Maybe they just don't know they're being awful and need somebody to whack them on the nose. There's a chance that it's not actually the policy of the county to do that and you ran into a crappy clerk.
Filing a complaint will cause them to look at what went wrong because they will probably have to file a response to the commission and write/implement a corrective action if they are at fault.

I'm currently dealing with one for my local PD when the cop flat out told me he was denying me my right (in those words even) to have my pistol registry info printed, even though it is written in MI law.

I did that once. Too funny and too useless. They said that the MCRC was only there to protect employees of the government from the government, not us.

    Good luck!

When I get my renewed one late last year, it had an effective date of 6 months in the future, which would've left me with a gap from Nov to May of effectively not having a valid CPL. I called and they sent out a new one pretty quickly but seems like a pretty glaring/obvious oversight.

    As the song goes:
"Gloom despair and agony on me
    Deep dark depression, excessive misery.
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all"

So, someone that doesn't experience good or bad luck, is actually "Luckless", can certainly wish another to have good luck.

Pssst. If he keeps his hat on, no one will notice.

All most everything has three positions. Take the question of the optimist vs the pessimist.

The optimist sees the glass as half full.
The pessimist sees the glass as half empty.
Then along comes a pragmatists. He views it as a question about the glass. He sees it as the glass is twice as big as it needs to be!
