Wow! Lot of information here. I have a Ruger AR-556. I bought a 400 round case of Federal 5.56x45mm, 55Grain FMJ ball. Is this a good choice for practice? NOOB here.

I wish I knew what all the numbers mean.

You’re all set for the next weekends practice.

    The numbers mean
5.56 is bullet diameter in millimeters
45 is case length in millimeters
55gr is bullet weight in grains (1/7,000 lb or 0.00229 of an ounce)

Loader Monkey LLC produces 77 grain match ammo used by a number of NRA / CMP high power competitors. Ammo routinely fires sub MOA out of our “match grade” rifles. You can contact Jack the easiest through FB or @ (419) 344-7941. Located just south of Cabelas Dundee in Petersburg, MI.

Most 8 twist barrels have no issue handling 80 grain bullets.

Just be careful when buying 62 grain ammo and most of it is M855/green tip with a steel penetrator in it. Most indoor ranges will NOT allow you to shoot this as it damages the backstops.
There is 62gr ammo that is not this type but it is not as common. Just an FYI.
