.44 mag lever gun capacity issue

Ok, so after years of using a 12ga for killing white tails I am planning on using a Marlin 1894 chambered in .44 mag this year. I ran into an issue, it has an 8rd tube. I can't seen to find a shotgun style "duck plug" for it so what's the trick here to get down to the legal 5+1? Am I missing something?

Yes, you are missing that the 5+1 is for semi automatic guns..
Your lever action (or a pump) is legal with however many rounds you can get into it.
