Alternative shooting areas near Traverse City

I am heading to the TC area for Thanksgiving and was thinking of doing some shooting while there. I see there is a DNR range SE of the city and the reference to no target shooting other than at the range in that general area. Is the rest of the Traverse City forest open to target shooting? If so, any suggestions for a place west of TC?

Thanksgiving weekend is a bad choice of time to go “shooting”, keep in mind its still Deer Firearm season till Saturday. Sunday is back to bow season. If you go shooting in the woods you will be putting an untold number of hunters at risk. My advice is Only shoot at a range this weekend.

The DNR has a pdf of shooting ranges both public and private in the state by county. I dont think it lists ALL but its a real good start. I tried to post it but for some reason my phone wont let me.

LOL! Michigan hunters put more people at risk than someone shooting at some stationary targets with a backstop in a designated area.

Hunters here are incredibly trigger happy.

The new DNR range on Supply road is a very nice range, and free.
    Rifle and pistol only.

We will probably end up at the range but I imagine it may be crowded.

What I have observed, is that the pistol range area is the busiest, then the 50 yard range, and lastly the 100 yard range.
The DNR and the NRA did an excellent job with this site.
...We're all hoping it stays that way, instead of the way Hoosier Valley turned out.

I'm sure all the RPG owners will be disappointed.
