State Land around Ingham or Eaton County

I haven’t hunted in over 10 years. I really want to get back out in the woods. The private land I used to hunt is no more. Anybody have any recommendations for a SAFE area to hunt near Ingham / Eaton county? The last time I hunted in state land, it was overcrowded with hunters and sketchy.

I have been hunting for over 50 years & have NEVER been shot or even shot at on state or federal land.
I have on rare occasions seen other hunters not in my party while in the woods but have NEVER felt threatened.
I would suggest you go and enjoy the outdoors wherever you can find access.

Maybe not anyplace that has had more then 5 killings this year.

Thanks. I plan on checking out the Dansville game area this week sometime.

Good choice, as far as I can remember, there have been no fatal shootings there during hunting season in the last 10 years or more.

Does anyone in the mid michigan area have a recommendation on state land? There are a couple of options.

I have private land to hunt but I often chase deer on state land as well. Especially during muzzleloader and bow season.

I’ve killed many nice bucks, Including my personal best, off state land. Don’t hesitate to give it a try.

I personally look for large tracts of land. I like to get off the beaten path. Few hunters will drift more than a few hundred yards from a trail or road. So if your willing to walk you will see few hunters in the deep woods.

Nothing like still hunting after a fresh fallen snow.
