    Smith & Wesson 27-2

My father is trying to find the value of this revolver he purchased in 1977. It has the original box, cleaning kit, papers, receipt, and MI safety inspection. I think he said the barrel is marked just a fraction under 6"? The only wear is turn marks on the cylinder. Bluing and grip finish are 100%.

Any way to know the added value with the original box and parts?

    Measure the barrel.
There was a 5" model which is hard to find.
    My guess is around a $1k ,
    Check the auction sites.

This is definitely a 5" barrel. It is under 6".

    Thanks for the link.

Probably on the high side, but the way you describe it, it's 90-95% - see the video about S&W screw counts...

    MODEL 27
    .357 Mag. cal., N-frame, 3 1/2 (disc. 1977), 4 (disc. 1991), 5 (disc. 1977), 6, 6 1/2, or 8 3/ 8 (disc. 1991) in. barrel, blue or nickel (disc. 1987) finish. Disc. 1994.

    Historic Prices
    Grading 100% 98% 95% 90% 80% 70% 60%
    4 screw $1,400 $1,150 $995 $775 $595 $450 $350
    3 screw $850 $750 $575 $425 $350 $300 $275

    Add 50% for 3 1/2 or 5 in. barrel.
Add $28 for white outline rear sight - (disc. 1991).
    Add 10% for 8 3/8 in. barrel - (disc. 1991).

Mkc, it is definitely a 1977, 5" barrel. That is great information for a guideline. Thanks.

My father seems to believe the original box, manual, and cleaning kit add value. Is there truth to this? What would be the added value of those factory items?

For a collector definitely, but it varies. I am always willing to pay more for that stuff within reason. The quoted prices I gave you are from Blue Book of Gun Values which tend to the high side. You can look at GunBroker for what similar items have been selling for. The 5" is a premium for sure. Be sure to look at completed items not just what's listed. That will give you an idea what they are selling for.
