I don't need one either as I have several. I just want one. I too, am a semi-auto shooter but I grew up on and love revolvers. You said you only have one revolver and that should tell me how much you like them. I guess that means you don't really care for them. If that's the case, why would you consider a Python for your birthday or something?
I did not "grow up on and love" revolvers. It's just that one happens to be beautiful-same reason I bought my only revolver in 1985, which I did shoot the hell out of. Just not my thing. The Python could be my BBQ gun. It's pretty enough.
I just saw 2 today at guns galore in Fenton, a 4" and a 6" stainless steel for iirc $1,799. I almost put 1 on the charge card. They also had a nice new production s&w model 29

If you have a Sportsman's Warehouse near you, and you want a Python, check their inventory. I got one for MSRP ($1499 + tax) a couple month ago. Now that Colt has the 2 known problems ironed out, they are really nice guns.
