    Regarding taller mounts I keep reading that they are used for long range shooting. All my shooting will be within 100 yards or less. Also wouldn't taller rings increase parallax?

    No, parallax is entirely internal to the scope. It is a matter of where the recital and image are in relation to the actual focal plane, as a simple example.
