    New to Michigan

    Hi all

I just moved here from California a few weeks ago. I have a CCW permit from California. I would like to get one for Michigan. What are the steps?

    Thank you so much

    Sean

Greetings from Imlay City "Gateway to the Thumb",

To get a CPL here, first you have to establish residency, then start reading MCL 28.425, all sections. See what exceptions apply, then you take a class and pay some money to the State.

    Not free, but freer.

CalSean - By having a valid Cali CCW, you may be able to waive the six month residency requirement, but you still need to establish residency (e.g., Michigan DL/ID, etc.) and meet other requirements.

In addition to getting your Michigan CCW, I would in parallel get one from New Hampshire so that you can avoid the ridiculous Michigan handgun registration nonsense. One of the worst things people in Michigan have been conditioned to consider normal.

Of course as others have already said, it all starts with getting your Michigan DL or ID.
