Wanting to purchase / build a NICE AR and don't know where to start...

Hey guys, I'm not new to firearms or ownership.

I'm a CPL holder and I own / have owned long guns in the past.

Been shooting since I was about 10 (30 years) but I've never owned any type of AR and I'm looking to build one.

I've shot a few at the range with some buddies but I really don't know much about them or where to start looking.

Would like to try and stay under $1000 if possible but I want something good for home defense that also looks nice.

Any suggestions on where to start are appreciated.

As already mentioned if you go on Palmetto State Armory you can get a CHF which stands for cold hammer-forged and those kits are their highest quality and I might add are excellent quality. Then all you have to do is get a stripped lower for around 50 to $60 and someone will help you put it together. More they have videos it is very simple. I'm a little far away for you but you could come meet me and I would help you do it

    I'll throw in Del-Ton.
They have great full kits at a good price.

If your budget is $1K one of the best quality builds out there is Laure’s Ultimate Upper Kit. It comes with every but a stripped lower. The areas you want to dump your money in any AR-15 build is a great barrel, BCG, and Trigger. If you have those three as quality parts you will be good to go.

Try Michigan's own Combat Armory for building an AR
