    Painting a barrel

    I have a stainless barrel.

    I kind of want to paint it black. I kind a want to do it with a rattle cans. Is this a bad idea?

    Try it, see how it works. If it doesnt go how you want drop it in a bucket of paint thinner.

    What is wrong with stainless?

    I've used Duracoat on a barrel in the past, including a muzzle device. So far it's worked out. If you have metal on metal movement the coating wears quick, but otherwise it seems OK.

    How about just brushing it to a dull (non-reflective) finish?

    Sanding or a wire brush?
