    Co witness sights

Excuse my ignorance, but what are 1/3 co witness sights? I'm considering one for an AR.

It is the height of the red dot in relation to the iron sights.
Iron sights stay at the same elevation. The red dot mount height determines which co-witness you use. Lower 3rd or absolute.

You will need to adjust your check weld to correct for the additional height of the sight.

the beauty of red dot sights is that you can keep your iron sights at the same position, sighted in for a standard cheek weld, but you can use the optic for fast acquisition even if your eye isn't lined up in the same line as the irons.
