How Do You "Paint" Your Steel Targets?

I am very lucky to have access to a private outdoor range with dozens of steel targets in a variety of configurations.
After every day of shooting we repaint the steel with Rust-Oleum style spray paint.
I'm wondering what other people do to recoat their targets? What are some quicker/easier/cheaper ways of doing this.
For instance, during competitions (I've never shot competitively) it seems like it would be too time consuming to spray paint between rounds

Anytime I'm at a store that sells rattle cans I look for a can of white or light color on a clearance rack. I spray them each week or so after using.

In steel challenge competitions, we spray a total of five plates between shooters. Each shooter has to shoot 5 strings for a total of five targets hitting them once. So each plate would have 5 lead marks after the shooter finishes. The reason we paint between shooters in case the plate was missed by the shooter for a time penalty, it would be easy to see the miss or the hit in case of an argument. It is time consuming but if the shooters in a squad are actively participating it becomes like pasting targets in an IDPA match.

I am not a paint expert, but there are two types of paints that I have experimented with based on whatever club we are shooting at. One paint type is specifically for steel targets, it is thick, not runny and only a little is needed to cover the lead mark, and it dries fast. This is the expensive brand. And some clubs use a cheaper brand that looks like we are spraying water. It is runny, and requires more paint to cover the plate. All in all I have dedicated T-shirts for shooting steel challenge and they have white paint on most of them LOL..

On sale, most always white, sometimes yellow, orange, etc. usually Rustoleium (sp) rattle can whatever. It just needs to be white AFAIC. It's going to catch bullets. Doesn't need to be nice or look glossy, purdy, etc.

Everyone has extra cans of paint in the basement from painting rooms at the house. That and a small micro roller is all you need.

rattle cans of white or orange. I do not have a range so I do not fuss over the cost, just whatever they have at hd or lowes, or what ever I have close to white will do. If I have tan or beige or whatever laying around for a year Ill use that too.

I have found entire milk crates of rattle cans on the curb on trash day walking my dog, I have years and years of paint, I must have 70 rattle cans or more in the garage.

I use the wall mart 97 cent cheapo rattle cans in white. Yeah, they are runny. First coat takes a lot. But any cost evaluation and these guys win hands down. Might use 3 wally cans for every two five buck rustolium but you save in the long run. No sense buying the expensive stuff when it has a lifespan of 20 seconds

and i guess it depends on how many people you have resetting targets in between rounds. one person to reset, one person right behind to give a quick blast. not hard to see where new hits are even though the paint is a little thin.

My targets all started off as flat black. Bought this stencil & a can of cheap SILVER. Good contrast. Haven't used them all that much, but so far they are holding up well.

I bought a couple hundred cans of paint when my local hardware switched brands for $1 for good cans. I just paint as needed.
