Subway doesn't own any of "Their" restaurants, they are all franchises, owned by someone else often a small business owner.
Corporate Subway's request not to open carry is mostly a moot point.
If you were actually thinking of grabbing something from Subway, you might want to think twice before punishing the small business owner stuck in a contract with Subway.
It's pretty hard to dump a franchise and make it going independent.

If you really want to make a point OC there and if they leave you alone buy a couple sandwiches. If they ask you to leave let them know you wont be coming back.

"WRAL reports the ban applies even in states where open carry is legal."

"Guns.com notes Subway’s firearm policy now says the restaurant chain requests “guests (other than authorized law enforcement) refrain from openly displaying firearms inside restaurants — even in states where ‘open carry’ is permitted.”

Why do they insist on mentioning this in the article? How would it ever apply in states where open carry is NOT legal or permitted?
Haven't you noticed; journalists (print and broadcast) get paid by the word?

This is the problem of buying a franchise, Subway can probably make these decisions and the franchisee has to live with it. No different than owning a house with a HOA, might be great this week, next week you're screwed!

Theoretically Subway could require this in updated contracts or claim it fits some clause existing, but it seems unlikely Subway corporate offices are going to be policing this or will be adding it to new contracts.

I was looking at different franchises probably 30 some years ago and some were better than others, some of the more stringent ones had something along the line of Franchisee agrees to accept and enforce all new policy changes that corporate implements. It was a lot more involved than that but that's the idea.
