    Binocs or a spotting scope?

The wife is going to be shooting a 22lr, possibly out to 100yds, more likely 50yds. Any suggestions on a spotting scope vs binoculars for me to use to spot for her?

Likely, we'd also want to use the optic to spot for me at 100 and 200yd (223 / 5.56)

For me, when I do Precision Rimfire, I use a way overkill 60x mono on a tripod next to my rifle so I can transition from my rifle scope to the spotting scope without having to get out of position. In the field I use a handheld monocular to save weight and bulk. I personally prefer a mono over a bino for shooting targets, and binos for observing things I need a wider field of view for.

    Go with a spotting scope.
I never fail to wonder at the mind set of people that I see at the range with a 3x9 Or 4x16 scope on their rifle looking for holes through a set of 7x -8x bino’s.
The steadiness and extra magnification of a spotter makes looking for little holes so much easier.

you'll find that looking @ .22 holes with binocs @ even 50 yds. is incredibly difficult, near impossible @ 100, due to inability to hold lenses steady.
Spotting scopes have tripods, or attach to something to avoid movement.
Save yourself a headache & buy a decent spotting scope.

At 100 yards, definitely a spotting scope.

At 50, there's no need if you have a good scope on the rifle itself.
Though if you want to spot for someone else, that's a different story.

Hand-held binoculars are no good at 50 yards, for my short eyes.

If you do Binos, mount them to a tripod.

If you can't see them well at 50yds, you most certainly will need a scope at 100yds. Not a crazy high dollar spotting scope, but something decent yet but budget friendly.
100's of options out there, name brand, and other Amazon / big box store house brands (Bass Pro, Cabelas, etc).

Spotting scopes are awesome but they're big and bulky and take up a lot of room at the range and get knocked over easily. Consider IS Binoculars:
