    Pheasant season

I don’t see a lot of mention about this around on the forum thought it might be a fun discussion.

    Who’s excited haha?

    Where are people hunting?

    How was last season?

I grew up hunting grouse in the UP and switched to pheasant when I moved downstate. I fell in love with it almost instantly. Always looking to chat pheasant, find hunting friends/skeet friends.

I enjoy bird hunting. Haven't been in awhile. Last time I was asked to go Pheasant Hunting was with my neighbor. When he told me where we would be going , I declined.

He wanted to go to a farm that had birds caged and at a certain time they were released.

I told him I appreciated the offer but that's not hunting to me.

I totally agree. I’d rather spend the time outside walking fields with good company and not see a single bird rather than “hunt” like that.

Please don't knock it until you've tried it.

I have friends that go out to South Dakota with their own dogs to hunt pheasant and still hunt pheasant at the farms also.
They tell me that the birds at the farms are just as exciting as out west, for a fraction of the cost.

I can personally recommend Walkiewicz and Rooster Ranch.
I make it to one or both each year.
I even attend the Michigan Bow Hunters pheasant hunt with my longbow each year.
If you think hunting the pheasant farms is too easy for you, come on out and try it with a stick and a string.

I’ve hunted the Rooster Ranch and enjoyed it. Wild birds are great but it’s nice to extend the season or get a dog out and watch him work at times when you otherwise can’t at a preserve.

I can see the extended season aspect of it. How do the birds fly compared to the wild? Also, I’m a dog less hunter. It’s tough but it works!

You can hire a dog and handler at the farm.
I've found the dogs to be very good. They know the land and get lots of work.

Dogs have always been a good companion for any kind of hunting not only pheasant hunting. I would always take a dog as a companion for every hunting adventure.

I have plans to hunt in Alaska next year, I do not know what type of adventure I would like to try out but I am very sure it is going to be a hell of fun with my family and I will see if I can try pheasant hunt in Alaska, I would want to catch every fun as I missed out this year's adventure due to COVID-19.

Nice thing is if you get lost in the woods you always have fido to survive on.

I have two dogs but Great Pyrenees don’t make the best bird dogs haha. I’m definitely looking forward to the opener.
