Modern Browning High Power (made in Belgium, assembled in Portugal). Silver frame, high gloss blued slide and checkered wood grips. Factory hard case and two mags. Excellent condition.

1992 (NY) Yes and yes on hammer and pads.

Edit to add: found this on wiki..
"Mark III was another advancement over the Mark II released in 1988, which featured a firing pin safety and a black epoxy finish. The main distinguishing (visual) feature of the Mark III is the absence of the water drain hole below the muzzle on the forward face of the slide.
Standard is the name given to the Mark III variant with walnut grips, gloss finish, and choice of sights. A Standard is a Mark III model, but a Mark III is not necessarily a Standard."

So it's an epoxy coating I guess. Nice walnut checked grips and a fully adjustable rear sight. MK lll "Standard" with upgraded sights?

"The Capitan is a Mark III variant that features adjustable tangent rear sights and a "ring hammer" like the early model HP35, checkered walnut grips, and a blued finish. It was reintroduced in 1993.[29]"
Per Browning website my serial number puts production in 1992 however.

I'm guessing you have the "Practical" model MkIII, and someone changed the Pachmayr grips.

Not something to sell...unless you have to. A thousand bucks should be easy to get.

I bought it from an older gentleman who shot competitively with 1911's and rimfire. Don't need to sell and have always wanted one. Didn't know there was so many variants. Wondered about model and value. Looking forward to some range time with her.

Well, as a collector can you nail down the exact model of "it"?

I guess, as a heterosexual male, I prefer to think of my guns in terms of feminine pronouns. My wife allows me to fondle them, take em on outings, etc. They can be as expensive as a mistress as well. I do agree however that the HP is handsome enough to be confusing.

I agree, it's a Practical, with different grips. A MKIII is not two-tone. Check out this Browning spec page.
