And folks, there's more to the BS of this than the tax stamp (whether they give it to you for free or not). If they decide that the AR pistols are now SBRs, not only will you need to get a tax stamp for each one, but you'd have to notify the BATFE and ASK PERMISSION ~30 DAYS IN ADVANCE to take the SBR across state lines -- something you don't have to do with a pistol.
As well as the problems that come with having it accessible in my home that other people live in I assume? Or even something as simple as allowing a friend to fire it at a range.

Being a criminal seems so much easier.

I don’t know where you got the 30 days from, but you can email them in now. My last bunch was back in under two weeks, during COVID. You can list all your required NFA and ATF will approve them with a window of up to a year, so you only have to submit them once a year. Yes, it’s an infringement and a pain, bit not nearly so much as people would have you think. I submit the whole bunch of them for everywhere I might take them once a year.

Because the average approval time for an ATF 5320.20 is 1 month or less for about 33% of forms submitted, ~2 months for ~37%, ~3 months for ~9% and ~4 months or more for ~22% of them.

And most people won't do it annually for every one of their NFA items (and only three per Form 20, of course).

I modified a 5320.20 to have enough lines for all my NFA, ATF has no problem with it. Of course you know that the form itself isn’t necessary, a polite letter will do. I have never had a mailed in form take longer than 4 weeks, and emailed forms are a good bit faster.

As I said, it’s an infringement and a pain, but it’s not the worst of my firearms related inconveniences.

No sense in not just adding a few more for free. They're on a trust and when I move out of state again, I can leave them with a family member or trustworthy person that i add on to the trust until paperwork clears.

Yet you still said/asked me "I don’t know where you got the 30 days from" ... ?

and emailed forms are a good bit faster.
One would think, but that's not what I've heard lately.
