    Private Rifle Sale Safety Tips

    Hey All,

I'm in the process of selling my rifle and it's likely to sell to someone who's local. This means there will likely be a face-to-face transfer.

I don't sell many guns and those that I have were to friends and family so I didn't really have to think about who I'm selling to, whether I'm being scammed or if I'm putting myself in a potentially dangerous situation. I'd be really grateful for any tips and suggestions you all have, specifically how to handle a face-to-face transfer with someone I don't know. Are there good places to meet for that kind of thing?

    Thanks!

Most police stations have a spot in their parking lot for online sale meet ups.

I do that a lot for Facebook Marketplace sales but I'm a little wary of bringing a firearm into the parking lot of a police station. I made the mistake of bringing my handgun (locked inside a hardcase) into a station to make a transfer before and got chewed out pretty good by the officer behind the desk..

Is the buyer a member on here? Did you check him out? How much "talking" did you do to get a feel for the guy.

You can have someone go with you. Look for a Michigan license plate showing he is a resident.

I don't have a buyer finalized yet, but I expect it to sell here.

Start by using a PM to PM. Check his background as an MGO member. How long of a member has he been.

Text back and forth. Get a name and do a phone search. You being a Brand new member raises flags with me personally, but you are a contributing paying member so I would not require DNA sample from you.

Meet in a busy lot at a shopping center that has cameras, there are plenty around. Always do the deed on the busy street side of the mall.

This is what I have done and knock on wood never had a problem except for one that was a no show. MGO people are great, but there's always one bad apple.

Tell the jerk that police aren't supposed to make up their own laws.

Exactly what is it you are afraid of?

Do you have any real life examples of that actually happening?

Have you considered the chances of being struck by lightning in a police parking lot?

I usually have a trained SEAL snipper on overwatch.

Make a furtive move and BOOM headshot!!
