    Selling recalled firearms

[Move this to the Legal area if needed]
So I've got a Taurus PT145 .45 APC stainless with 4? mags. It has a drop it and it might go off recall. I cocked it and beat it on things and it didn't fire. Taurus only wanted to trade me their cheapest 9mm and I would have had to pay all the shipping and FFL. So I passed.

I've also got a stainless Rossi (Taurus) 972 6.5" .357 that is beautiful with a mirror finish. It has some stupid recall about if you have the trigger pulled while you engage the safety it isn't really safe. Again, they only wanted to replace with short barrel non-stainless cheap junk, and I pay all fees and shipping. I passed on that also.

Can I sell these someday if I want? I'd fully explain the recall to the prospective purchaser. Or do I keep sitting on them as safe queens? I never use them.

And yes, I will NEVER buy another Taurus. They have a lifetime warranty, but it can include replacing with garbage on your dime Out of my 3 Taurus pistols, I've had 2 nasty recalls.

Thanks to a 2008 law, the liability for selling a recalled product now extends well beyond the big box retail brands we all know so well. Now anybody who sells a recalled item, whether they’re aware of the recall or not, is liable for any injury or harm caused by the item.

I have seen a couple recalls sold here before with no mention of recall fix. Last time I mentioned to a seller, I was told it was non of my business.

A recall or 2 I can remember is Winchester 100 and Walther PPKs.

There is a web site people can search for any recalls which I always checked before selling.

Which is why it’s nice some companies put identifying marks on guns that have been recalled correctly, like the extra roll pin in the XDS, or a dimple on the underside of the slide.

I waited a long time before sending my XDS in. I knew what the malfunction was, and how it happens, and knew the “upgraded” guns came back with worse feeling triggers. In the end I decided to just send it in, as if anything were to ever happen.....it would be my liability. And since I worked at a Springfield dealer, I had no excuse to play ignorant about the recall. They did end up butchering it with some poor machining on the slide and a garbage trigger (by comparison), but it still sees a lot of use with no plans to sell it.

I just got a Sig P320 off of a thread on here. I know that technically they dont have a "recall" on it but they do have a "voluntary upgrade". I sent it in the same week I got it and 10 days after I sent it to them(sig pays shipping both ways) I got it back. I pretty much have an m18 without the m18 markings. Anyway i also had a friend with a rossi revolver and I told him to keep it as is because maybe one day it will be a collector you never know!

After your death or if you forget about the recalls would be my concern.

A few months ago I saw a gun on MGO and told the owner I'd take it. I then went on the company www site and found that there was a serious 2 year old recall on the gun. I contacted the seller and got the serial number. I checked with the www site and found out the gun WAS in the recall and had not been sent in.

When I asked the seller he claimed he was the original owner... but knew nothing of the recall.

I with drew my offer to purchase. This is a troubling issue to me.
