This bill would amend the current requirement to report a stolen firearm within 5 days by adding "or lost" and changing 5 days to 3 days. The $500 civil infraction remains the same.

Heh, I'm not sure...I guess we'll find out if it is ever heard in committee.
My guess is that since the existing law lacks reporting a "lost" firearm entirely, by adding "or lost" brings about the duty to report a firearm that isn't necessarily stolen...just can't account for its whereabouts...it's out there...somewhere!
As far as tightening up the reporting time from 5 days to 3 days...I guess if I knew one or more of my firearms were stolen, I'd probably have it reported within a day...but sometimes, life gets in the way and making the report has to wait. Now, by adding "or lost", I would think the reporting time would stay the same or perhaps even be extended a bit, giving you a chance to retrace your footsteps and try to locate it before reporting it. Tightening it up by nearly 1/2 the time allowed doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
I wonder if there'd be a distinction in LEIN between a "reported stolen" vs "reported lost"...or if it all gets lumped into "reported stolen".

There is a huge difference between three days from when it was stolen and three days from when you discover it's been stolen. Does this address the difference?
Lighten up Francis.
