I needed to remove the front sight hood on my, new to me M-48 Mauser. The front sight needed to be moved over a little bit to correct the rifle from shooting to the left. I have heard the the hood removal can be a challenge. I searched online and found a easy, and quick way to remove the sight hood. Use a wood clamp the tightens when the handle is depressed, remove the split pin that keeps the adjustable arm from pulling out, turn the adjustable arm around so when the handle is depresses the jaws open, use parachute cord to tie each side of the hood, attach the cord to the jaws and when you depress the handle the jaws will open the hood without any scratches or cursing.
