1964 Det Spl, heavy customized (Fitz)

Not sure how to post photos on forums anymore without a hosting site
Just imagine new beyond a light cylinder drag line

Full Fitz Special conversion, trigger guard cut, bammer bobbed, ejector rod trimmed and beveled. This was done by Cole's Gunsmithing of Florida. They are literally Perazzi specialists and it shows. These mods look as though from the factory.
I took off and sold the pristine factory walnut, has medallioned giraffe bone stocks by somebody who's a somebody in that field too can't recall offhand.

I've always heard even the most well done customization actually devalues a guns worth. I wonder that about this. All in all excellent condition and a recognizable classic carry mod, though not performed by Fitzgerald. There may have only been 50 of those. A Fitz job immediately brings to mind horrific hack jobs. What if they were done right?

Maybe I could inbox a pic to someone?
It also is not for sale, long story but can't be either, just wondering how much it could be worth

I think you heard right, if it wasn't done by John Henry Fitzgerald.....you just have another cut up Colt.

I get it. Had hoped quality might matter but it is a pretty niche kind of thing in any case

As in you're keeping it forever and ever?
For a "real" Fitz Special, You'll want an appraisal done then. One that will give you the expert's value today and a value of what it should be insured for.
Heavily customized guns are hard to value from the usual reference books - unless it was a special edition customized by the manufacturer. An original "Fitz Colt" in this case with the triangular "VP" stamp.

Since Fitz was deceased for nearly 2 decades when a '64 Detective special was made - we're not talking about a 1 of roughly 200 unicorns ever made.
Unfortunately, you simply have a chopped up '64 Colt - no matter how well done. I'm not throwing rocks or saying it is junk, just that you shouldn't expect a super high value, or even the value of a good-very good condition '64. Unless it was sold to a Fitz enthusiast, which you said you wouldn't do anyway.

    For example:
An unmolested 1964 2" 'Snubby' Colt Det Spl, 2nd issue in 38spl, SN 864xxx with the box - vintage good condition with some minimal surface corrosion on the hammer and frame and light drag lines on the cylinder...would be $800-$850-ish all day.
Same gun in 32 Colt would be $850-$900.
Start taking things away like the factory box, original grips, Colt medallions, etc - and the value drops like your 401k has over the last year.
