Made by HOWA in Japan. Very nice detachable magazine bolt gun, see bolt recall info.
If it is a long action, you are probably looking at a 7mm Rem. Mag.

Same rifle as the Weatherby Vanguard and mossberg 1500, all are rebadged Howa 1500’s only offered for a couple of years in IIRC the late 70’s or early 80’s and is almost certainly a 7mm Rem mag.
I do believe S&W once offered another bolt gun 20/30 years earlier that was built by Husky although I may be mistaken.

Yep 7mm mag 99% sure. Short action 1500/1550/1700 were only chambered in .308, not 7mm-08 (which is just a necked down .308 to hold the .284 bullet)
I think the 1700LS's hit the shelves in '81 or '82 - which is just a 1500 minus the irons and 2" off the barrel (22" vs 24").
If it says 7mm it's a long action 7mm Rem Mag.
