Colt Trooper Mk III, 357, appears to be 4" barrel, good condition, with manual, carboard box and foam trays. I'm told that it has only been fired a few times.
Any idea what it might be worth?

I was going to say around $950-$1,000, but the blued trigger and hammer with the stainless in styrofoam is making me scratch my head - and it almost looks like a vented rib too (probably jut the pic though)
Definitely a 4"
SN?
Picture of the box label would tell the story.
Looks like Nickle plate, with Electroless Nickle, hammer and trigger would be the same as frame & cylinder.
Stop The Robberies Enjoy Safe Streets / You can't argue with slaves that don't know they're shackled.
take the grips off, there should be a "N" on the lower left of the frame, if it was a nickel model originally. Also check the serial number range, the color of the styrofoam seems off for that model. trigger and hammer were often blued on the target trigger and hammer
I don't have possession of the revolver. Belongs to a friend of a friend. I'm just helping research the gun's likely value. It was their father's gun. Reportedly only shot a few times and has not been modified. They say that there are no markings on the side of the box. Serial number range is 126xxL. Another friend checked a Colt S/N search site and found that it was manufactured in 1978. The rib is solid, not vented.
Per Wikipedia, Colt was fighting rising costs when this model was manufactured. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_Trooper
That's all I can tell you.
Any educated estimate of the revolver's value?

$1,000 is a good starting price, $800- $1000 should be the range. A collector would pay more, Gunbroker would be a good place to start if it's going to be listed for sale.
The Colt Trooper was Colt's lower priced revolver, made for police depts., to be used as a service revolver.
Used to see a lot of used ones for sale, as PD's switched to carrying autoloaders. The Colt name should bring $800- $1K
from an interested buyer. Having a low round count, the oem box, & pkging , should add to the value, may be able to get > $1K
if you find a Colt collector than needs one for a collection, & doesn't already have one.
They are not rare, but if it's in like-new condition, should get a good price for it...IMO
I'd put it in the $1,200 range given the sales that I have observed at MI gun shows lately.
