1st time buying guns. what do i need?

Hi all, I am a Michigan resident, over 18 years old. I am interested in the following things :

Buying pistols or an AR from a shop like cabellas
Buying a pistol or an AR from a private seller

I have the background check Pistol Purchase Permit (but no CPL) from my local sheriff's office. Is that all I need when I go to a store ? Can I buy multiple pistols with it ?

    Thanks !

You won't need a purchase permit to buy from a FFL. They run the background check when purchasing from them. However, you can not purchase a handgun from a FFL until you are 21 years old. In the meantime, you can purchase a long gun from a FFL.

Otherwise, you can use your purchase permit to buy from a private seller.

Here is a guide (it needs updating, but it gives you a good idea of the process)...

Hello and welcome! Tom won't steer you wrong.

I would add one pesky item though Tom - the supposed non-existent (but some have seen it and more have heard of it) auto delay in NICS processing for anyone under 21. That would make me want to go somewhere more personable than the Black Friday madness at a Cabelas gun counter - if you can get them to stop BS-ing long enough to get their attention.

Yes, good point. Our FFL at Outdoorama mentioned this, too...it's automatic and doesn't matter which FFL you go through. They have no control over it.

When I first got my set up, I absolutely had to grab a really good belt a really good holster and I would definitely say it’s safe to keep your gun near you when you’re not carrying. Other than that a lot of things are add-ons, but those top three would be the basics at least for me.
