    Older eyes.

    Had Lasik 20 years ago.

    It is starting to fail.

Who shoots red dots and how do they help you.

    I miss my irons...

    Long range is still OK.

Up close is gone forever I assume.

I shoot red dots. Also old with way less than great vision.

The red dots help. Focus on the dot and target rather than rear & front sights then the target. Often the dots will flare due to astigmatism. Turning the intensity down may help control the flare but not always. Some dots flare more than others.

I run red dots on some rifles but prefer low power variable optics (LPVO), gun dependent. Both dots and scopes on handguns.

"Green" dots are usually a good choice if you're having problems with star-bursting, double-dots, smearing or commas, etc.
The light waves from a green dot sight will not flood your eye's cones like those from a red dot, and as such will distort significantly less than a red dot sight. Science - gotta love it.
And holographic sights tend to be better than prismatic if your eyes are really bad.

I’ve been down this road before.

My Eotech looked like a bowl of cherries.

Green reticle helped. Prism scopes were better than other technologies.

Eventually had lens replacement surgery. This was the best and most expensive improvement. Get the best lens you can afford.
